【摘要】:Thistestmethodisusefulforestablishingtheintegrityofcompositerod.Thepresenceofvoids,cracks,andhollowfibersareconsidereddetrimentaltothestructuralintegrityofthecompositeandmaycausereducedelectricalresistanceandincreasedcurrentleakage.Aperfectcompositewouldbeflaw-free,andtherewouldbenopossibilityofwicking.Compositesofthistypearevirtuallynonexistent,astherewilltypicallybeentrappedairintheresindevelopedduringmanufacture,occasionalhollowfibers,andoccasionalcracksduetothermalstresses.Thistestmethodisintendedtoprovideatoolformeasuringtheextentofwickinginacompositeoververyshortlengthsofmaterialforcomparativepurposes.Thepresenceofwickingover1in.(2.54cm)lengthsmaynotnecessarilyimplythatthecompositewillperformunsatisfactorilyforitsintendedend-use.Therefore,interpretationoftestresultsshouldbemadewithcare.Thistestmethodwasdevelopedasatechniqueforestimatingqualityandconsistencyofpultrudedrodandbarstock,whichisacompositeofresinandall-rovingreinforcement.Themanufacturingprocessmayalsoaffectthequalityoftheproduct.Itshouldbeusefulforamanufacturerindeterminingwhetheranygrosschangesinqualityhavetakenplaceduetoprocessorrawmaterialchanges.Sincetheresultsofthistestaresosensitivetosamplesize,penetranttype,penetrantused,viscosity,durationoftest,andotherfactors,noattempttoarriveatorrecommenddevelopmentofaspecificationforthesematerialshasbeenmade.Itissuggestedthatsuchaspecificationshouldbenegotiatedbetweensupplierandenduser.1.1Thisdye-penetranttestmethodcoversameansofevaluatingsolidfiberglassall-rovingreinforcedpultrudedrodorbarstockforlongitudinalwicking.Therearegenerallythreemechanismsthatpromotewicking,anyorallofwhichmaybeoperatingatagiventime.Note18212;Thespecimen''scross-sectionmayreflectdelaminations,longitudinalcontinuousvoids,orthepresenceofhollowfibers,orallthree.Occasionallytheseflawsmaybedetectedbythistest,butothertestsareusuallyrequired.1.2Theresultsofawickingtestaredependentonspecimentypeandsize,penetranttype,timeofexposureinthepenetrant,penetrantviscosity,etc.Anyattempttouseawickingtesttoestablishspecificationcriteriashouldbemadewithgreatcare.1.3ThevaluesstatedineitherSIunitsorinch-poundunitsaretoberegardedseparatelyasstandard.Thevaluesstatedineachsystemmaynotbeexactequivalents;therefore,eachsystemshallbeusedindependentlyoftheother.Combiningvaluesfromthetwosystemsmayresultinnonconformancewiththestandard.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecifichazardstatements,see10.3and10.6.Note28212;ThereisnoknownISOequivalenttothistestmethod.
